Geology

Platinum holdings along norterhn limbNear-surface mineralisation at Mokopane is contained within a thick, Platreef zone that occurs from surface to a vertical depth of 200m, which is amenable to low cost, large scale, open pit mining with low strip ratio. The Platreef is comprised of mafic and ultra-mafic rocks from the Rustenburg Layered Suite, which can be traced for up to 150km over the Bushveld Complex, and over 5,000m in the project area. These igneous rocks were emplaced within the Pretoria Group, the uppermost sequence from the Transvaal Supergroup, which near the project area are comprised of quartzite, shale, siltstone, calcareous shale, dolomite, limestone and chert. The mineralised Platreef zone is described as a sulfide bearing pyroxenite layer of variable thickness and typically high nickel and copper contents and relatively low Platinum Group Elements (PGE) content.

The project area includes five known mineralised areas:

1. Southwest,
2. West,
3. Northwest,
4. Northeast, and
5. Far North.

The mineralised Platreef, covering the Southwest area, is approximately 800m long and up to 250m wide in sub-crop, and dips at 25o-50o towards the southwest. Between 1989 – 1992, previous explorers have drilled approximately 15,330m, mostly on the Southwest Area, and defined an Inferred Resource estimated at 39.7 million tonnes at 0.146% nickel, 0.085% copper, 0.22 g/t platinum and 0.33g/t palladium. Mineralisation is from surface to a maximum depth of approximately 200m and remains open at depth and to the southeast.

AIM Resources believes there is scope to significantly increase the current resource status by drilling:

  • for extensions of the Southwest Deposit along strike and at depth, and
  • the remaining four mineralised areas to the north, which have only been lightly drilled.

In the early 1990’s, metallurgical test work completed by Mintek on a bulk sample and drill core, indicated acceptable recoveries for the contained metals.
